The forthcoming 7 day Listowel Harvest Racing Festival, from Sunday 13th to Saturday 19th

of September, was today officially launched at a photo call at the scenic course in Listowel,

County Kerry. Racing highlights include the €175,000 Guinness Kerry National Handicap

Steeplechase (Grade A) Chase on Wednesday 16th; the €55,000 Guinness Handicap Hurdle

on Thursday 17th and the Listowel Races Supporters Club Sponsored Race ‘The Slan

Abhaile” on Saturday 19th September. This year the total Prize Money over the 7-days is

€1.2 million (up €150,000 on 2014). Fashionable racers of all ages can look forward to

three days of Best Dressed competitions, including dedicated categories for gentlemen,

ladies, younger racers, vintage lovers and couples. The fashion highlight of the week is the

McElligott’s Honda Ladies Day on Friday 18th of September judged by model Alison

Canavan and former TV apprentice, Brian Purcell with a total cash prize fund of €5,750. As

always, in addition to top quality National Hunt and Flat racing, the Listowel Racing

Committee have organised an extensive range of free entertainment, including the Kerry

Group family Day; daily race card draws with cash prizes, promotions, music and more. For

The Listowel Harvest Racing meeting opens on Sunday 13th of September with the Kerry

Group Family Day. This year, the Listowel Racing Committee have expanded the Family Day

programme to include performers, stilt walkers, fire eaters and face painters – all for free.

Plus Fuji photo will capture the moment and take and print your Listowel Races Family Fun

photo for free, kindly sponsored by McGuires Pharmacy Listowel. So make sure to bring

along all the family, and remember children under 12 have free admission to the race

course, when accompanied by an adult.

As well as being renowned for its Serious Racing and Serious Fun, Listowel is also

celebrated as the place to be for ladies and gentlemen with Sensational STYLE! This year,

the Lyons of East River Best Dressed Man is on Thursday 17th of September; the

McElligotts Honda Best Dressed Lady is on Friday 18th and the Listowel Tidy Towns Group,

in association with An Taisce, Best Presentation of an Up-cycled / Re-styled or Authentic

Vintage outfit is on Saturday 19th of September.

The Lyons of East River Best Dressed Man is becoming more popular every year, attracting

well dressed gentlemen from all over Munster and beyond. All sharp dressed men of all

ages are eligible to enter, and again this year, the overall winner will receive €1,000

towards their nominated charity.

McElligott’s, Tralee, in association with Honda, are the new sponsors of Ladies Day at the

Listowel Harvest Racing Festival on Friday 18th of September. Judged by Alison Canavan,

top international model, and expert in nutrition, health and wellbeing, and Brian

Purcell, Kerryman and former Apprentice star, it is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s

most glamorous Ladies Day events. This year there is a cash prize fund of €5,750, and

three additional new categories, including the McElligott’s Honda Best Dressed Couple, the

McElligott’s Honda Jazziest Headpiece and the Listowel Races Most Glamorous Young

Racer. The winner of the McElligott’s Honda Ladies Day will receive a cash prize of a

cheque for €3,000. The first runner up will receive a cheque for €1,000 and second runner

up a cheque for €500. In addition, Listowel Races are sponsoring a prize of €500 for the

most Glamorous Young Racer under 25 years of age, with a runner up prize of €250. The

winners of the McElligott’s Honda Jazziest Headpiece will receive €500 and the McElligott’s

Honda Best Dressed Couple will win a weekend for two in Carton House. Almost 28,000

people attended last year’s Ladies Day and organisers are expecting even bigger crowds

this year – so get to the course early !

Making a welcome return on the closing day of the Listowel Harvest Racing Festival on

Saturday 19th of September is the Listowel Tidy Towns Group, in association with An

Taisce, Best Presentation of an Up-cycled / Re-styled or Authentic Vintage outfit. This

alternative and fun fashion event is looking to highlight the potential of Waste

Minimisation, in the imaginative re-use and up-cycling or re-styling of items previously

discarded. The judges, well known fashionista Orlagh Winters and Susan Vickers from An

Taisce will shortlist 5 male and 5 female finalists and the overall winner in each category

will receive €200 cash prize. The Ladies prize will be sponsored by Listowel Race Company

and McCarthy Brokers of Listowel will sponsor the winning male. The 1st runners up will

each receive a Clarins Hamper worth €100, kindly sponsored by Oonagh of Broderick’s

Pharmacy and all remaining 6 finalists will receive an attractive “Goodie Bag” donated by

the local businesses in Listowel Town.

NEW this year is the Love Listowel Races Retail & Window Display competition. Shop

owners and businesses all over the county are encouraged to create window or in-store

displays celebrating Listowel Races. The competition will run from Monday 24th of August

to Friday 4th of September. To enter simply create a window display and then take a photo

with hashtag #listowelraces, upload it to Listowel Races Facebook page or email it to

info@listowelraces.ie. Entries can also be send by post to Listowel Race Course, Listowel,

Co. Kerry. The winner will receive two tickets to Ladies Day including lunch and €100 in

cash. All entries will receive two tickets to Listowel Races on the opening day, Sunday 13th

All the racing action can be watched on the on course Big Screen and there is also an on-

course Ladbrokes Betting Shop, open daily for punters wishing to bet on other sporting

events. Of course, there is also free music and entertainment daily and lots of race card

draws and competitions – plus the fun continues long into the night in the many fine bars

and restaurants in Listowel town which is within walking distance of the course. No

wonder generations continue to flock to the Listowel Harvest Festival.

Admission is only €20 each day / OAP / Students: €12 and children under 12 have free
